BRIGHTNESS MOST BRIGHT

A large outdoor projection and performance celebrating the rich poetic heritage of our region
(In memoriam Moriarty)

Live Artist Denis Buckley was born in Killarney. From his present base in London he has travelled the world making striking public performances. In such diverse settings as 42nd Street in New York, The Royal Court London, Glastonbury Festival or Clerys window in Dublin, he has stunned and amazed audiences with his unique and particular take on the Live spectacle.
For this year's Killarney Summerfest he returns to his hometown to realise a long held ambition. For three nights at the site of An Speir Bhean, Seamus Murphy's 1940 monument to the four Kerry poets, the sky, projected on a large screen, will again be visible behind the vision-woman.

On the last night of three Buckley and a local Irish speaking performer will deliver, in front of the sculpture and in the open air, a bi-lingual contemporary version of Aodhagan O Rathaille's famous 18th century Aisling lament Gile Na Gile, (Brightness Most Bright). A specially commissioned film will be projected behind the performers, culminating with an on screen full moon once more descending on the silhouetted muse that inspired one of Ireland's greatest poems.

This one off site and time specific spectacle takes place only once during the festival. Do not miss this unique event.

An exhibition of drawings by the artist relating to the performance will be held the week after at The Muckross Gallery.

BRIGHTNESS MOST BRIGHT is realised with financial
Assistance from the Arts Council and Kerry County Council

Kerry~A Way of Life

A Photographic Exhibition by Pat Fleming and Gail Tagney McCarthy
Revive Cafe, New Street - July 2008

Kerry, since time began, has enjoyed a reputation as a King among Princes.  Our landscape, our character, our vernacular, our sporting culture, our traditions, our people and, of course, our modesty are unique to within our Kingdom boundaries.  Our exhibition documents and celebrates what it is to be of Kerry and proves that, as a people, we live Kerry as a way of life.

Pat Fleming, a native of Killarney, has been photographing Kerry since the early 1990's.  His work has featured in the exhibition "Exploring The Alphabet" - 2007, magazines and even a book cover for American novelist Marcella O'Connor.

Gail Tagney McCarthy is a native of Tralee and can't remember a time when she didn't take photographs.  She is driven to record what surrounds her, before it is lost to change.  She takes her inspiration from Patrick Kavanagh's view of seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary.
