BACK LANE GALLERY SUMMER EXHIBITION

The Back Lane Gallery is an Artist collective highlighting local artist and craft makers from Killarney and the surrounding area, The Back Lane Gallery is one of two locations, the other being Muckross House, that have been picked to be on the Original Kerry Craft trail representing Killarney http://www.originalkerry.com/craft-trails/south-kerry/
During Killarney Summerfest craft makers and artists in the gallery will be demonstrating their crafts and skills. The artists will be making free colouring pages for children so the can create their own art while their children browse around the gallery. Also there will be a special exhibition of paintings of Killarney in Oils By Killarney Artists Deborah O'Keeffe, Oliva O'Carra, Tina Reed and Christopher O'Connor amongst others.

Join local Community music group Happiness Runs perform a repertoire which includes jazz, folk and rock songs and world music tunes from Europe, Brazil and elsewhere.
Some of Killarney's finest musicians with play instruments including flutes, accordions, percussions, guitars, keyboards, bass and of course lots of voices. The emphasis is on enjoying the music, and developing new musical ideas.
J.J. O`Shea, the award winning presenter of "The Global Village" on Radio Kerry will give a brief talk on some of the varieties of Sacred Music around the world. He will illustrate his talk with sample recordings from different traditions. Great Fun for Everyone!
WRITING INTO NATURE at The Gap of Dunloe

Hennessy Award-winning writer, Fiona O'Connor leads a day-long writing workshop that combines the best of nature writing with the stunning beauty of the Gap of Dunloe.
Con Moriarty of Hidden Ireland Tours will facilitate ‘a walk off the beaten track' to discover rarely seen views of the Gap. Beginning with breakfast at Kate Kearney's Cottage there will be time for individual writing with expert guidance provided before and after the walk. The day will close back at Kate's with soup or a glass of wine and readings from the work accomplished.

Take a step back in time with a wander through the Traditional Crafts Village in the green area at the front of Killarney Outlet Centre, which will come alive with the sights and sounds of traditional craftspeople demonstrating their trades.
You will be intrigued and fascinated by the time-honoured techniques of the spinner and weaver, tinsmith/coppersmith, willow weave basket-maker, stone carver, blacksmith, and harness-maker. See a traditional circular nomadic Yurt being built from natural materials; try your hand at medieval weapons and armoury and traditional longbows and arrows. Meanwhile the bodger will be shaping wood on his foot-operated pole lathe.

Classical musicians will perform a wide variety of instruments and composers in one of Ireland's most beautiful settings.

Happiness Runs Open Music Session

Happiness Runs community music group will host their regular monthly music session during Killarney Summerfest, on Thursday 28th July, at 8pm, upstairs in O'Connors Bar on High St, Killarney.
This session is open to everyone. That means that if you would like to sing a song or play a tune, you are very welcome to come along and take part. Musicians from the community group will back you, or lend you a guitar if you left yours at home!
Anything goes at this session - come along to play and hear folk, blues, jazz, rock, trad, Klezmer, Eastern European, Brazilian, and original songs and tunes.
As it is an early session, children are welcome too.
Entry to the session is free, and a good singalong is guaranteed for everyone!
