KT TunstallSunday, June 22nd 2008
INEC Killarney - Doors 10.30pm
Three years ago, KT Tunstall stepped out the front door of her flat in Harlesden, north-west London. She was off to work, and to play. She didn’t get to go home again until she’d recorded debut album Eye To The Telescope. Wowed the nation with her one-woman blues-stomp ‘Black Horse And The Cherry Tree’ on Later… With Jools Holland. Toured the world a fair few times. Become a festival favourite from Glastonbury to T In The Park (and back again). Secured a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Outsold every other female artist in the UK in 2005 (bye bye Madonna, see ya Mariah). Won a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist. Won the Ivor Novello Best Song award for writing Suddenly I See. And a Q award for Track of the Year for Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. Landed a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Lent her tunes to choice American films and TV shows (eg, Suddenly I See, used in the opening scene of Meryl Streep flick 'The Devil Wears Prada'). Watched her songs become staple audition material for contestants on American Idol. Found time (OK, it took a day and a half) to record and film her lo-fi ‘living room’ album, Acoustic Extravaganza, live with her band on the Isle of Skye. Signed up for the GlobalCool campaign, which took her to Tony Blair's house in attempts to put pressure on the government to reduce carbon emissions. Sold almost four million copies of Eye To The Telescope, including over 1.5 million in the UK alone and over 1 million in America.

Des BishopSaturday, July 5th 2008 @ 8.30pm
INEC Killarney
STAR OF RTE’S ‘IN THE NAME OF THE FADA’, DES BISHOP, IS BACK ON THE ROAD WITH HIS STAND UP SHOW ‘TONGUES’
Having spent the past twelve months of intense study and immersion in Connemara’s Gaeltacht in an effort to speak as Gaeilge, Des Bishop is back on the road again. Drawing from his latest experiences, the star of the revolutionary RTE show ‘In the Name of the Fada’ is touring Ireland with his live stand up show ‘Tongues’. ‘Tongues’ explores Des’s latest challenge, taking the ultimate step towards Irishness by moving to the Gaeltacht to learn his mother tongue. Never one for half measures, Des moved to Connemara in spring 2007, to embrace what so many Irish people have avoided, our own native tongue. Des explores the lighter side of learning to speak Irish in Connemara, something that has strong memories for many Irish people. Describing his attempts to grasp the language, Des brings to life his newfound passion for Gaeilge with unparalleled energy and comic brilliance. The second half of the show sees Des explore the religious side of his identity, from his early days as an overly theatrical altar boy at St. Kevin Church, to his experiences with people who have the power to speak in tongues. What follows promises to be a blistering night of stand-up comedy, where Des explores his Irish identity - his language and religion - challenging those that speak in tongues while struggling to learn his own! Prepare for some fresh and highly provocative comedy, as a comic at the very height of his powers demonstrates the success of his encampment in the heart of Connemara, and confronts the idiocies of Christian fundamentalism.

RiverdanceFriday, 25th July ~ Sunday, 10th August |

As everyone now knows 'Riverdance' started in Dublin in 1995, remarkably as a brilliantly conceived spin-off from a seven-minute intermission piece in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. It has danced a long way since then, developing into an international phenomenon, with troupes careening and criss-crossing the world; not so long ago there was even one 'Riverdance' company installed for well over a year in New York.
The concept of 'Riverdance' is both simple and adroit. The huge popular success of the show derives in part from Moya Doherty's canny producing - all pieces are put together with breathtaking theatricality - and John McColgan's swift, deft staging, which works like a computer but still manages to pervade an unexpected but not unpleasant impression of homespun charm over-riding, or perhaps over-dancing, its awe-inspiring efficiency, and its sweet and sure ability to deliver on every promise, implicit and explicit, suggested by the very idea of an Irish dance spectacular.
